One big improvement is that the Avengers are learning to trust each other, and in particular, who matches better with whom.
An advantage of adding Bucky to the team, even before he's combat ready, is that he can do a lot of the strong-man tasks that used to fall on Steve, Hulk, or Iron Man. This is tremendously useful in a group where people often wear themselves out or get injured and need physical assistance. Plus Bucky's experience growing up with Steve so sick has made him very compassionate.
