I was intrigued by this post about clams from [personal profile] corvidology -- characters who seal up their emotions until they explode.  I have long loved the character type but didn't know it had a name.

I thought about my characters, and I'm not sure I have one of this type.  I have plenty who hide emotions and/or injuries, but I'm not sure they're rigid enough.  And Heron, who really is Vulcan-like in manner, is fully fluent with his emotions, just has a fairly flat affect.

So if anyone is interested in this, feel free to ask for it in any relevant prompt call.

Well, does the 'shell' have to be rigid and unemotive? Because there are plenty of people who suppress stuff, while outwardly appearing to be happy, healthy, calm, etc. Sometimes it could be displacement, but other times it is an emotional version of protective camouflage.

If looking for people with emotion-shells...look for caretakers who hide their needs, angry people covering up sorrow or an emotional void, and people who are expected to be happy. Also, see toxic positivity.
