These pictures are from the savanna and prairie garden.
These dark purple irises are blooming in the tulip bed. At a distance, they look black.

Looking closer, you can see the purple.

Backlit by the evening sun, poppies glow like Chinese lanterns.

The first purple-and-yellow iris is blooming in the wagonwheel garden. These have a strong sugary scent.

Continuing to observe ants on peonies, this is one of the large reddish-yellow ants.

These are the small black ants.

Today I spotted these really tiny black ants on a peony bud. So there are at least 3 species just inches apart.

The wildflower garden is mostly grass right now, but it does have a few flowers blooming, mostly woodland hyacinths.

A couple of these pretty white flower spikes are blooming in the wildflower garden.

I planted this 'Husker Red' penstemon in the wildflower garden today.

After discussion with some friends, I suspect that this wildflower in the prairie garden is Sweet William.

For comparison, these are some of the perennial pinks, a different species of Dianthus.

Blackberry blossoms are open.

Raspberries have green fruit.

Russian comfrey is blooming in the prairie garden.
