Welcome to Winterfaire 2023
Nov. 25th, 2023 12:58 am![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
The Winterfaire spreads out as far as the eye can see. Some booths show streamers of red and green, while others sport blue and silver. All of them offer treasure after shining treasure. Music fills the air with lyrics of Christmas, Hannukah, Kwanzaa, Solstice, and Yule. From the Wordsmith's Forge comes the bright chiming of words being hammered into literature. Delicious scents of hot chocolate, spiced cider, peppermint, baking cookies, and gingerbread tantalize the appetite. Smiling, laughing shoppers amble from booth to booth with lists in hand. Vendors grin back, calling out, "Come try, come buy...!"
I know a lot of artists, writers, musicians, crafters, and other talented folks who make some of their living from their creative endeavors. I don't always have the money to support them as much as I'd like, but what I can do is set up a virtual faire where vendors can offer their wares to an audience that likes crafts, literature, and small businesses. For those of you doing your holiday shopping, here's an opportunity to buy or barter or find something made with love, something unusual or unique, in a way that helps make it possible for creative people to go on creating wonders. And there will be no traffic jams, stampedes, or gunfights at the Winterfaire!

Vendors: If you have goods or services suitable for holiday gifts, please put up a booth by replying with a description of what you sell or barter or offer, an estimate of your price range or other parameters if possible, and some kind of contact information so shoppers can reach you. If you have a website (Etsy, Patreon, personal, whatever) showcasing your work in more detail, include the link(s). If you have holiday freebies, such as downloadable greeting card imagery, you're welcome to promote those too. Barter also works. Science fiction, fantasy, and fannish things; crafts and handmade goodies; literature and artwork; custom offerings; it's all welcome here. For ease of identification, I recommend titling your reply starting with "BOOTH:" followed by the name of your business or type of goodies.
Shoppers: If you're looking for something specific and it's not posted yet, feel free to ask. Someone else may know where to find it! "SHOPPING FOR:" and the topic would be a good title.
Everyone: You may help promote the Winterfaire by linking to this post from your own blog or site. If you have a similar holiday-networking post, you may link to it in a comment on this post.
Participation Perk: I'm offering poetry for participation. The following linkback poems still have verses available:
"Let the Children Lead Us"
"Pumpkin Spice Prosperity"

BOOTH
Date: 2023-11-26 05:52 am (UTC)Long list of products. projects, and links at https://priscillaking.blogspot.com/2023/11/winterfaire-wares.html .
Briefly: Fund blog posts (they can be product-supportive!), poems, or e-books, starting as low as $5 for a "bloggy" post, limerick, or pre-written "sciency" post on a topic that interested me enough that I went ahead and wrote it.
Fund hand knits...I've not even been trying to upload new photos of knitted products, although I've knitted some new ones. You can, however, order unique non-clothing items by specifying a size and color, including the Window Insulator Curtains that will save hundreds of dollars over the years to come.
Or order your American Butterflies 2024 Daybook PDF for $10...or fund the American Butterflies 2024 ALMANAC for $300. I don't know whether people will fund the Almanac but, if they do, it will be good...fact-packed and fun to read, with space in the PDF for readers to use it as a day minder. Like Poor Richard's Almanacks, only with color photos.
There's also a link to my Zazzle store. I receive no profits from that. It's in aid of USPIRG.
Blessed be you and Scalzi for doing this, and reminding the rest of us to do it. One year it will actually pay!
BOOTH: Fluid Visions Art
Date: 2023-12-20 09:48 am (UTC)This is too late for people to get things for Christmas, but hello anyway!
I sell prints of my art on my (NEW) e-commerce store at fluid-visions.com. It is lovely fabulous art, and I'm saying that because the stuff I've made that I don't like... is never going to see the light of day, so there. There is also a small selection of mugs and shirts. All of these are fulfilled by Printful, a print-on-demand company who has producers all over the world, so it is going to be shipped from somewhere near where you are.
The shop is just open, so more things are going to be added daily (at least, when I'm not busy doing Christmas things!).

Date: 2023-12-20 10:24 am (UTC)What linkback poem would you like to reveal a verse of? If you don't have a favorite, I can pick one.
Re: BOOTH: Fluid Visions Art
Date: 2023-12-20 10:33 am (UTC)It's fluid art... it was literally dripping down the page! Which is one reason why fluid art is so awesome.
As for the poem... I'm curious about "One Bite at a Time".
Re: BOOTH: Fluid Visions Art
Date: 2023-12-20 10:45 am (UTC)Acrylic pour, or something else?
>> Which is one reason why fluid art is so awesome.<<
I agree. That particular one reminded me of the lip-drip technique in ceramics. You lay down a solid glaze and let it dry. Then you dip the lip of a mug, bowl, etc. in a different color, flip it, and let it run.
The most I do with fluid art is when I'm making something like ice cream, to add swirls of a different flavor. But I saw one of my characters doing it in fudge, which I think would hold a pattern really well. I'm half-tempted to try it myself, nobody in this world seems to be doing it.

Your new verse is up:

Re: BOOTH: Fluid Visions Art
Date: 2023-12-20 10:55 am (UTC)Yes, acrylic pour. Mind you, I did a pouring session with icing once, so why not ice cream or fudge?
Re: BOOTH: Fluid Visions Art
Date: 2023-12-20 11:16 am (UTC)A gorgeous art form, and challenging.

That turned out rather well. I think the ring pour might work with fudge batter.
If you want an (allegedly) edible pouring medium, try mirror glaze. I find that it's not very tasty, at least on the truffles I sampled -- pretty to look at but I've had dumpy-looking ones that were way tastier. If you want an edible art medium, though, that one's hard to beat. You can even put edible glitter in it for metallic effects.
>> so why not ice cream or fudge? <<
Exactly!
I was thinking of things like pouring dots and streaking them into hearts. I doubt I have the skill to manage fancy pictures. But I could get the ball rolling.
Re: BOOTH: Fluid Visions Art
Date: 2023-12-20 11:22 am (UTC)And now you're making me think of Latte Art, which in its way is also fluid art!
